![]() News06.06.2011 London Blitz London Blitz 23 - 7 Sollerod Gold Diggers
The London Blitz kicked the game off and the Sollerod Gold Diggers high powered offense made short work of their opening possession, quickly marching downfield with big passing completions to score the game’s first touchdown. Their kicker added the extra point to give the Gold Diggers an early seven point lead. The Blitz offense looked like they would cancel out the deficit when they took to the field, as they also marched downfield efficiently, with quarterback Fred Boyle making key passing completions to wide receivers Clive Palumbo and Rod Bradley and running back Deji Alli and strong running from running back Temi Oduyemi. The drive stalled on the Gold Diggers two yard line, where the Blitz fumbled and the Gold Diggers recovered. Both offenses struggled to get going and momentum looked to swing in the Blitz’s favour when defensive back Aaron Sanders-Percival intercepted a deep pass and returned the ball to the Gold Diggers’ 20 yard line. The Blitz offense couldn’t capitalise on the momentum gained by the interception as quarterback Fred Boyle threw his first interception of the afternoon. The Blitz defense remained stout and forced the Gold Diggers to punt but on their ensuing possession, the Blitz offense failed to get going in the red zone with quarterback Fred Boyle throwing his second interception of the game. Blitz fortunes changed in the second quarter however, with running back Temi Oduyemi carrying the load for the Blitz on the ground and quarterback Fred Boyle finding veteran wide receiver Clive Palumbo on a 36 yard catch and run for a touchdown. A Jimmy Wyatt field goal before the half time interval gave the Blitz a 9-7 lead. The Blitz received the ball in the third quarter and proceeded to move the ball on the Gold Diggers’ defense. Running back Temi Oduyemi, who had a great game carrying the ball behind a stern offensive line, capped off the Blitz’s opening drive of the second half by skipping into the end zone untouched for the touchdown. Jimmy Wyatt added the extra point to make the score 16-7. More stellar blocking from the Blitz offensive line allowed running back Temi Oduyemi to secure the victory for the Blitz when he galloped 36 yards into the end zone for the touchdown. Kicker Jimmy Wyatt added the extra point to make the final score 23-7.
