European Junior Championships in Paris:
Paris - Hosts France have won the revenge against Germany, defending champion Austria won in the second semifinal sovereign against Italy.
On the French national day, the hosts had one more reason to celebrate during the European Junior Championship. The French team won 7-0 against the reigning vice-champion of Germany and revived the defeat they had suffered two years ago in Dresden and moved into the final. The only points of the game, which was particularly dominated by the defenses of both teams, were made by running back Savane with a 12 yard run and a good extra point by Bafdile in the first quarter.
Only once did the German team have a real chance to score. But quarterback Johannknecht threw an interception in the third quarter, seven yards ahead of the end zone of the French. Bafdile caught the ball exactly on the goalline and thus made the Germans' hopes of becoming European champions again.
The French now have this chance. The opponent in the final on Sunday at Stade Laurent Plagelatte will be Austria. The title defending champion won 19-0 in the second semi-final against outsider Italy. Team Austria, who was the better team in all categories, scored two touchdowns by Bonetti and Winterle as well as two fieldgoals and a good extra point from Straight.
