News08.06.2004 Turku Trojans Tight Games in starting Finnish Maple League
Maple League 2004 started with four extremly tight games as teams fought out to the last seconds on each game. At Seinajoki, visiting Trojans took the win 27-28 (7-13) as Crocodiles closed in with a late touchdown but kicked the tying extra point to a goal post. At Porvoo visiting Helsinki Roosters took the win 14-22 (7-14) as Butchers final drive ended with a fourth down incompletion on closing seconds. In Pori Jyvaskyla Jaguaarit drove the lenght of the field to tie the game but ran 20-yards short as time expired giving the 19-12 (13-0) victory to home team Pori Bears. On Sundays only game last years promotion winner Lappeenranta Rajaritarit blocked Helsinki Wolverines game winning field goal try to walk away with 14-15 (7-15) win. Maple League will continue next weekend with three games. On Saturday Crocodiles will travel to Jyvaskyla to play against Jaguaarit.
