EFAF is followed by IFAF Europe

Raiders eager to win first championship

The Papa Joes Tyrolean Raiders want to win their first title in their 12 year team history - and would be the first European Cup winner in Innsbruck among all team sports.

The odds are not against them. The Papa Joes Tyrolean Raiders have a 2-0 record against British teams: in 2003 the Raiders defeated the PA Knights 56:21 in their first Friday-Night game, in EFAF Cup semi-finals 2004 the Raiders beat the reigning British champion London O's 49:14 (42:0 halftime).

Both teams - Knights and Raiders - are stronger this year and have improved. The Papa Joes Tyrolean Raiders qualified for Tiroler Wasserkraft EFAF Cup Finals 2004 and secured homefield advantage in the Austrian semi-finals, having a 7-1 overal record. The Knights defeated the London O's in the British League, lost 16:21 to the Danube Dragons, ranked 4th in Austrian league, on their way to the EFAF Cup finals. The very sympathic Knights Head Coach Steve Rains turns into a permanent resident of Austria. "Innsbruck has become my second hometown, on June 25th I am coming to Innsbruck for the fourth time in one year," Coach Rains says.

Last year the Papa Joe's Tyrolean Raiders also hosted the EFAF Cup finals in the new Tivoli Stadium in front of a record crowd of 4.500 (despite heavy rain and hail) but they lost 7:28 to the Carlstad Crusaders. This time the outcome should be different - with Austria's new record holding Running Back Florian Grein, who broke the Austrian league record rushing for 1.026 Yards and 15 TDs in only 6 games.
Papa Joe's Tyrolean Raiders Manager Daniel Dieplinger: "A victory in the EFAF Cup finals would be our biggest success in team history, our team and organisation has worked now for 12 years to be where we are right now. In addition it would be the greatest success of any Tyrolean club, neither soccer, volleyball, hockey, basketball nor handball has ever won a European Cup trophy."
