Two teams from two countries played against each other first time in an official european game. The Champion of 2004 German Football League South Marburg, winner against the Hamburg Blue Devils in last years german quarter-finals, against the club from the western part from Austria, Hohenems, last years fifth ranked team in the austrian premier league.

The Offense looked good early on as Quarterback Jo Ullrich dished out
two touchdown passes to his Wide Receivers Filip Pawelka and Heiko
Müller. The Austrians, who had made the trip with a rather small squad,
came back into the game when Quarterback Abner found his Fullback
Brotheren in the oponents endzone. Runningback Gerome Castleberry, who
was the only Import player to suit up for the home team, rushed for the
next touchdown, before Abner found Kamber in Marburgs endzone right
before half time. Already at this early stage in the game it was
obvious, that Head Coach Brad Arbon wanted to test his whole team and
therefore substituted frequently.

The second half started with an interception by newly acquired safety
Sebastian Tuch. Shortly after, Ullrich found Pawelka again, who had an
incredible game in his first appearance as a Mercenary, to make it
28:14. But Hohenems fought back. Abner himself finished a long run over
almost 50 Yards with a Touchdown and kept the game close. But the high
scoring continued. Marcus Glock was the next recipient of an Ullrich
Pass into the endzone of the Austrians, but at 35:20 the two sites were
still not done quite yet. Runningback Keath Bartynski scored on a 3 Yard
Dash over the middle bringing his colors within a one touchdown margin
once again. Two interceptions (one on each side) later, the game was
closed by a 45 Yard Strike from Ullrich to Pawelka, who scored his third
Touchdown of the afternoon to make it 42:27.

The Marburg Mercenaries will now travel to Zürich to meet the Renegades
in their second EFAF Cup Game (30.04.05, Kick Off: 18.00, at Winterthur)
